Coach Mitch Fountain Bio
Coach Mitch Fountain first got his feet wet (pun fully intended) back in 2006 when he first began playing water polo with the Okemos Middle School team. From there, he went on to play for Okemos High School captaining three years and named to the 2013 First Team All-State & All-American Teams. He still holds career school records at Okemos for goals, assists, steals & blocks. In addition, he also spent several summers playing for various clubs (Spartan WPC, Rockford Aquatic Club, Mad Dog WPC) around the midwest.
His first coaching venture was in 2013 for the very same MS program he came up through, this time under the Spartan WPC umbrella. By his second season at the helm, Okemos' site had over 55 kids involved from 5-8 grade and the 7/8 Girls team went undefeated en route to a championship season.
2016 saw Mitch take on his first head coaching role at the High School level where he spent two seasons building the Grand Ledge Comets to their most decorated and successful years in program history. In 2018, Mitch moved westward and landed at Grandville HS where he remains today. In his first year, the Bulldogs qualified for the State Tournament for the first time since the turn of the century, placing sixth.
Coach Mitch has been fortunate enough to work alongside some of the brightest minds and most decorated Olympians in US National Team History - Tony Azevedo, Brenda Villa & Maggie Steffens to name a few.
When not found on a pool deck, Mitch is more than likely discovering another craft brewery biergarten with his irishdoodle, Kona where he'd be watching his beloved MSU Spartans or local Detroit sports teams
